Charlotte, NC · Local advisory

Tax and advisory for Charlotte companies and finance professionals.

Charlotte is one of the largest banking centers in the country, with a growing base of fintech, manufacturing, logistics and family businesses. Our advisors serve Charlotte clients remotely, with on-site visits as needed.

What we handle

What Charlotte clients ask us about

North Carolina has a flat individual income tax that is scheduled to keep falling, a corporate income tax being phased down, and a franchise tax on capital. It also decouples from federal bonus depreciation, so businesses need separate state schedules. We plan around these rules and the taxed pass-through entity election.

Finance professionals in Charlotte often have deferred compensation, equity awards and investment income, and many companies here operate in South Carolina too. We handle multi-state returns, executive compensation planning and IRS matters.

Does North Carolina allow bonus depreciation?

No. North Carolina requires an addback of most federal bonus depreciation and lets businesses deduct it over later years.

I live in South Carolina and work in Charlotte. Where do I pay tax?

North Carolina taxes your wages earned there, and South Carolina taxes you as a resident with a credit for tax paid to North Carolina.
