Accounting and tax for restaurants and multi-unit operators.

Restaurants run on thin margins, so tip credits, payroll accuracy, sales tax and depreciation make a real difference. We work with independent restaurants, franchisees and growing restaurant groups.

What we handle

What restaurant owners need

The FICA tip credit under section 45B returns much of the employer Social Security and Medicare tax paid on tips above the minimum wage, and many restaurants under-claim it. Accurate tip reporting under section 6053 also matters more now that employees may deduct qualified tips under the 2025 tax law, which brings new reporting requirements for employers.

Restaurants also collect state sales tax and local meals taxes, manage inventory and food costs, and invest heavily in build-outs and equipment. Interior improvements are often qualified improvement property eligible for bonus depreciation, and cost segregation can accelerate deductions on owned buildings.

Questions

Frequently asked

If your question isn't here, call (703) 880-8412 and you'll reach a person.

Are we claiming the full FICA tip credit?

Many restaurants are not. We recalculate it from payroll records and amend prior years where it was missed.

How does the no-tax-on-tips rule affect us?

Employees may deduct qualified tips on their returns, and employers must report tip information accurately. We help update payroll reporting.

Can we write off our restaurant build-out right away?

Interior improvements often qualify for 100% bonus depreciation, though Virginia and some states do not follow it.

Do you work with franchisees?

Yes. We work with single and multi-unit franchisees on tax, payroll and lender reporting.
