Rockville, MD · Local advisory

Tax and advisory for Rockville and the I-270 biotech corridor.

Rockville is Montgomery County's seat and the center of the I-270 corridor's biotech, health IT and federal contracting businesses. Our advisors serve Rockville and Gaithersburg companies and the families who work there.

What we handle

What Rockville clients ask us about

Biotech and life sciences companies along I-270 invest heavily in research, so the federal research credit, section 174A expensing and the payroll tax offset for startups matter. Many also hold federal grants or contracts, which affects both credits and accounting. We plan and document all of it.

Federal contractors supporting agencies in Rockville and the region need DCAA-compliant systems, and owners face Maryland state and county income tax and the pass-through entity election. We advise on compliance, planning and IRS matters.

Questions

Frequently asked

If your question isn't here, call (703) 880-8412 and you'll reach a person.

Do grant-funded research costs qualify for the R&D credit?

Research funded by a grant or contract is generally not eligible. Internally funded research usually is, so tracking funding sources by project matters.

Can a pre-revenue biotech use its R&D credit?

Often yes. A qualified small business can apply up to $500,000 a year against payroll taxes.

Do you have an office near Rockville?

Our Washington, DC office at 20 F St NW is close to Rockville, and our headquarters is in Ashburn, Virginia. We meet clients in person or by video.

Can you represent me before the IRS?

Yes. Our CPAs represent individuals and businesses in IRS examinations, appeals and collections nationwide under a Form 2848 power of attorney.

IRS releases 2027 inflation adjustments (Rev. Proc. 2026-35)

For 2027 the joint-return standard deduction rises to $33,200, the estate tax basic exclusion to $15,480,000, the annual gift exclusion to $20,000 and the Section 179 expensing limit to $2,640,000. Our advisors recommend revisiting year-end gifting and equipment purchase plans with these figures in mind.
