Tax controversy · IRS collections

Owe the IRS? We negotiate the resolution and stop the pressure.

When tax debt builds up, the IRS can file liens, levy bank accounts and garnish wages. Our advisors take over contact with the IRS, file missing returns and negotiate a resolution you can afford.

What we handle

How we resolve tax debt

The first step is usually getting compliant: filing missing returns and stopping new balances. Then we choose the right resolution: a streamlined or non-streamlined installment agreement under section 6159, an offer in compromise under section 7122 when you cannot pay in full, currently not collectible status, or penalty abatement for first-time or reasonable cause relief.

If the IRS has issued a final notice of intent to levy or filed a lien, you have 30 days to request a Collection Due Process hearing under sections 6320 and 6330, which pauses levies and lets you propose alternatives. For businesses with unpaid payroll taxes, we also defend owners and officers against the trust fund recovery penalty.

Questions

Frequently asked

If your question isn't here, call (703) 880-8412 and you'll reach a person.

Can the IRS really take money from my bank account?

Yes, after notice and the chance for a hearing. Acting quickly on a final notice of intent to levy preserves your appeal rights.

Will the IRS accept an offer in compromise?

Only when the offer equals or exceeds what the IRS calculates it could collect from your assets and future income. We calculate that figure before recommending an offer.

What if I have not filed for several years?

The IRS generally expects the last six years filed. We prepare them, often reducing the balance compared with IRS substitute returns.

Can penalties be removed?

Often. First-time abatement and reasonable cause can remove many penalties, and interest on removed penalties goes with them.
